🐻 Lamar Valley & Silver Gate

← Yellowstone Home

Home base: Silver Gate Lodges β€” Jun 28 (Mon) to Jul 1 (Thu). This is the northeast corner of Yellowstone, just outside the Northeast Entrance. Quiet, remote, and absolutely stacked with wildlife.

Lamar Valley β€” β€œAmerica’s Serengeti”

The single best wildlife-viewing area in the lower 48. A wide glacial valley where bison, wolves, bears, elk, and pronghorn gather in plain view.

Best Times to Go

  • Early morning (5:30–8am) β€” predators most active, light is gorgeous
  • Late evening (6–8pm) β€” animals come out of the trees to graze
  • Midday is fine for bison and elk but less wolf/bear activity
