Solatube WHF — Compatible Remote Research

Research conducted June 12, 2026. This page contains research and informed speculation based on web searches and direct analysis of the Solatube installation manual.

⚠️ Important Finding: Two Different RF Systems

After downloading and reading the actual Solatube WHF installation manual (Part No. 941572 v1.4 — the 0-10V version), it turns out the fan has two separate RF systems:

SystemWhat it controlsPairing method
Fan motor’s built-in RF receiverFan speed (Power, speed up/down)Press Pair/Test button on fan motor — pairs with Solatube-specific remote
PPA401S dimmer module0-10V dimming outputPress PAIR button on PPA401S module — pairs with WP4013 dimmer switch

The WP4013 pairs with the PPA401S, but the fan speed remote pairs with the fan motor. These are separate!

Remote Option 1: Solatube Variable Speed Remote (What the fan expects)

The Solatube WHF3000 (0-10V version) manual specifies a “Variable Speed Remote Control (Sold Separately)” that pairs directly with the fan motor. This is NOT the same as the WP4013.

Appearance: White handheld remote with Power, Increase Fan Speed, Decrease Fan Speed buttons. Uses a CR2032 battery.

Pairing procedure (from Solatube manual):

First-time (factory fresh):

  1. Plug fan cord into outlet — fan automatically enters pairing mode
  2. Press and hold Power button on remote until fan control beeps
  3. Remote is now paired

Adding a new remote later:

  1. Press and release Pair/Test button on fan motor until green light flashes
  2. Press and hold Power button on remote until fan control beeps
  3. Remote is now paired

To unpair an existing remote:

  1. Press and hold Pair/Test button on fan motor until motor beeps rapidly 4 times
  2. Remote is removed from motor memory

To find the Pair/Test button: It’s on the fan motor itself (in the attic), not on the PPA401S module. Look for a small button near where the power cord enters the motor housing.

Remote Option 2: WP4013-K (Pairs with PPA401S Module)

This is the companion remote for the PPA401S dimming module specifically.

  • Part: WP4013-K (Vealite RF Wireless 0-10V Wall Switch Dimmer)
  • Battery: CR2032
  • Price: ~$25–33
  • What it controls: The 0-10V dimming output of the PPA401S module (lighting-style dimming, not fan speed)

Pairing procedure (from PPA401S manual):

  1. Unpair first (if needed): Press and hold PAIR button on PPA401S module for 5 seconds — you’ll hear 4 beeps confirming unpairing
  2. With module powered on, press the PAIR button on the PPA401S module — LED will flash quickly
  3. Hold ON/OFF button on WP4013 remote for 3 seconds
  4. Audible beep confirms pairing
  5. Test remote

Troubleshooting Pairing Failures

If the WP4013 remote isn’t pairing:

Possible causeWhat to try
Remote already paired to another moduleHold ON/OFF on remote for 10+ seconds to reset
PPA401S module already has paired remotesUnpair all: hold PAIR on module for 5 seconds (4 beeps)
Module was already paired with a different remoteFirst unpair old remote, then re-pair new one
Battery in remoteMake sure CR2032 is fresh and installed correctly
Wrong buttonTry PAIR on module, not Pair/Test on fan motor

Solatube-specific Compatibility

The PPA401S module in your attic (V1.4, 06-20) appears to be a standard Vealite-brand module — same FCC ID (2AQ3JPPA401S) as the generic one. The WP4013 should work with it at the module level, but whether that controls the fan speed depends on how the module is wired into the system.

If you want a guaranteed-to-work solution, call Solatube at 888.SOLATUBE and ask for the Variable Speed Remote for the WHF3000. The manual states it’s “Sold Separately” which means there should be a part number and availability.

Recommendation

  1. Try the WP4013 pairing procedure again — but use the correct steps above (especially unpairing any existing remote first)
  2. If it still doesn’t work, you may need the Solatube-specific Variable Speed Remote — contact Solatube directly
  3. Alternatively, if the fan motor is fine, consider keeping it and buying just the WP4013 remote (~$33) as the least-expensive option
